When one wild and crazy guy – Steve Martin – takes on a 100+ year old German farce, you know you’re in for an evening of laughs, and that’s you’ll find in THE UNDERPANTS, playing in Curtain Call’s Dressing Room Theatre, Stamford, beginning November 1.

“THE UNDERPANTS is a 90-minute romp set in Germany, 1910. In the hands of Curtain Call co-founder, Lynne Colatrella, it has been loads of fun just watching rehearsals,” said Curtain Call executive director Lou Ursone. “Lynne has directed many, many wonderful productions here over the years so I am thrilled to have her working on this gem,” Ursone noted.

THE UNDERPANTS tells of newly married Louise who is bored with her demanding and uptight bureaucrat husband. Then one day at the royal parade, she jumps up on a bench to see the king go by, and her bloomers come loose falling down around her ankles. Her husband is panicked that her display will cost him his job and reputation. But suddenly the room they’ve been trying to rent out has plenty of takers, and it just might have something to do with her underpants.

Original playwright Sternheim, (often dubbed "the German Molière") was born in 1878 in Leipzig. After studying philosophy he co-founded "Hyperion" literary magazine and went on to write such plays as The Cassette and The Snob. After encountering moral outrage over some of his writing, Sternheim moved to Brussels and lived there until his death in 1942.

The cast of THE UNDERPANTS include two actors making their Curtain Call debuts: Darren Carfano and Stuart Adelberg. They are joined by John Fatteross, Daniel P. Mann. Ellen Krinick Porto and Dany Rousseau. Set design is by Peter Barbieri, Jr., lighting design by Jamie LaJoie, costume design by Helen Adams, and stage management by Amanda Browne and Tori Ready.

Performances will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00PM and Sunday afternoons at 2:00PM. The Kweskin Theatre is located at The Sterling Farms Theatre Complex, 1349 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. Doors open one half hour before show time. Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for senior citizens and $17.5 for children. Thrifty Thursday tickets are $27.50. Flex Passes offer discounts of 25% and more. Box Office: 203-461-6358 x 36 or on the web at www.curtaincallinc.com.

Curtain Call's 29th season also includes the Fairfield County premieres of A Christmas Story The Musical, Something Rotten and Kinky Boots as well as several other plays and musicals, comedy nights, and an interactive murder mystery.
