AVON, CT - Nurse Patty Ferguson wasn’t surprised when she started losing her hair due to chemotherapy treatment for an aggressive form of cancer. But she was shocked when all of her co-workers at Stanislaw Facial Plastic Surgery Center in Avon shaved their heads in solidarity with their beloved friend.

“I started losing my hair this week, so I asked Julie, the esthetician at our office who is also a hairdresser, to bring in her clippers to just shave it all off,” said Ferguson, 54 of Wethersfield. “I wanted to control at least one part of this process and wanted to be surrounded by my work family.”

Dr. Paul Stanislaw was so inspired watching Patty’s bravery, that he jumped into the chair to have his hair buzzed off as well. Then in a beautiful “shave of solidarity”, the rest of the employees followed suit. Not to be excluded, employee Mona Norfleet came in to the office to get her head shaved as she is out on medical leave herself after suffering injuries in a car accident.

“We all wanted to show Patty how much she means to us and we are here for her every step of the way,” explained Dr. Stanislaw. “We admire her positive attitude and know she is going to beat this.”

Videos of everyone getting their head’s shaved can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/StanislawMD/. Ferguson also recorded a “post shave” video explaining what happened and voicing her love and gratitude for the support.

Patty is being treated for Primary Mediastinal (Thymic) Large B-cell Lymphoma. Her treatment will require 96 straight hours of in-patient IV chemotherapy called R-EPOCH every three weeks over an 18-week period.

Practice Administrator Debra Kehoe said “It’s just hair. All we care about is Patty getting better. Lots of tears going on around here in the last 24-hours for sure!”

The team established a GoFundMe page to help Ferguson and her family financially https://www.gofundme.com/please-support-patty039s-fight-with-lymphoma.
